Should I scream now? Or later?

For the first time in Star Trek history (as much as I can recall, at any rate), J.J. Abrams has given us a glimpse of some of the larger creatures that inhabit the new Trek universe (And you thought it was only limited to different kinds of bony prosthetic makeup, didn't you?)This giant ice beast chases a screaming Kirk across a frozen tundra planet (and really, who wouldn't crap their pants if this thing was chasing them?)and it looks more like something we'd have seen emerge from the Star Wars universe, instead of the almost always "Humanoid" type Aliens classic Trek is known for.

Enter creature concept artist Neville Page, who created this giant red monstrosity seen in the film. Some of you are already acquainted with the talented Mr. Page, as he also gave life to "Clover", the giant monster from the smash hit "Cloverfield". Check out more of his work over at http://www.nevillepage.com/.

I'm ecstatic to see these kind of creatures working their way into the Trek canon. It really helps flesh these fantasy worlds out when each planet has it's own flora & fauna. Hell, maybe Kirk will ride one of these sweet babies in a future installment! One can dream!

Cheers,
Mooch
